After a certain age, our hormone levels start to drop. This is true for both men and women. Bio-identical hormones can rebuild telomerase activity (key to life extension), whereas synthetic hormones do not appear to do this. Regarding any hormone, first get a blood test from a professional specializing in this field like our registered nurse Karen, BSN, to see if your current levels are adequate. Secondly, if you need supplemental hormones, only take bio-identical ones, never synthetic. Finally, make sure you have all the sex hormones tested, not just one of them. Even bio-identical hormones should not be taken in isolation since generally more than one of them are deficient.
